As garden fans, we’ve been so excited to get to know the folks behind a new community garden project in Hanover! The Hanover Community Garden is designed to plant, grow, and harvest food for community members experiencing nutrition insecurity. Their master plan, which prioritizes community-building, includes:

  • A pavilion for farmer’s markets and lecture series on saving seeds, planting a garden and harvesting produce
  • Fire pit for monthly s’mores in conjunction with the fire department
  • Children’s area
  • Pollinator area
  • Raised beds/vertical gardening
  • Art sculpture
  • Storage building with mowers, tiller, seedeater and gardening tools
  • Sink to clean vegetables
  • Benches with wheelchair-accessible raised beds, located close to the parking area

Raised beds may be available at no cost to non-profit groups like 4-H, Scouts, and senior citizen groups, provided they donate a percentage of their harvest. Master gardeners and community leaders will reserve some beds solely for growing produce for those with nutrition insecurity, but some beds may be available for community members to rent for their own use.

The garden is located at 161 N. Madison Avenue in Hanover. Stay tuned to their facebook page for updates on community work days and social events as they turn this vision into a reality!
